Applications are now open for a new pilot program designed to enable partners of Australian Defence Force members to focus on their career and building a supportive community network.
Participants in the Cowork Coplay program will have the opportunity to pursue work and study interests alongside other like-minded individuals with shared experiences, while their young children are cared for on-site by childcare professionals.
Skill development and networking opportunities will also be provided as part of the program, which will be held at the Burton Community Hub in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
Cowork Coplay was developed to provide a targeted solution to address identified challenges faced by Defence partners and families in three key areas: meaningful, sustainable employment access to childcare and community connection.
The pilot is open to partners of current-serving ADF members with young children below school age.
Veterans SA has partnered with Cowork Coplay founder, Claire Harris, to deliver the six-week pilot program, which will officially commence in February 2023.
Applications to join the pilot program close on 31 January 2023.

Quotes attributable to Geoff Brock
We know that Defence spouses are hard-working, skilled and determined individuals, however they can sometimes face challenges when it comes to juggling work or study and caring for their family.
I am excited to see the Cowork Coplay program piloted in South Australia to contribute towards further positive outcomes for South Australian Defence families.
Quotes attributable to Veterans SA Director, Chantelle Bohan
Research shows that for Defence partners, meaningful employment and local social support are the strongest influencers of wellbeing, yet amongst the most common barriers to achieving this is lack of childcare and inflexible working options.
When we learned about the Cowork Coplay program, which addresses all these challenges, we knew we needed to bring this exciting opportunity to local Defence families.
Quotes attributable to Cowork Coplay founder, Claire Harris
Cowork Coplay is one piece of the puzzle of targeted, modern initiatives for Defence partners and families.
It has been designed to harness the benefits of a flexible, supportive working environment, while also providing the opportunity to meet other people and be part of a vibrant community.
I’m excited to be working with Veterans SA to bring Cowork Coplay to Defence partners in Adelaide in 2023.
